World Book Day - Inauguration Of Mauritiana Section

“A good book is the best of friends, the same today and forever” (Mart Farquhar Tupper)

For the last 49 years, the books have always been valued at the Keats College. This year International World Book Day and the Right of Authors have been celebrated with great pomp. On Thursday 2nd May, the Keats College Boys Department was majestically embellished with flags, balloons, flowers and a well set podium. Smart smiling students and Keats College staff members welcomed heartily our main guest of honor, Mr. Yvan Martial, a Mauritian writer, Director of Gazette des îles and a well known journalist. Rectors of neighboring schools, President and members of the Parent Teachers Association also joined us to pay a tribute to a priceless treasure, the Book. The arrival of our surprise guests, Mr Le Livre and Père Fouka was highly appreciated by all! Questions were set to the audience, followed of course by the valuable clues of Père Fouka and each good answer was of course rewarded!

The grand celebration of the International World Book Day and the Rights of Author was the best occasion for the Deputy Rector, Mr Mungly, to show his gratitude towards the school Manager, Mr Clément Wong. Personal sincere thanks were given to Mr Clément Wong for his great vision, help and support to work towards the progress of the Keats College, “pour construire et maintenir l’ edifice” as was rightly said by My Mungly. A certificate was given to Mr Clément by the Miss Korimboccuus, one of the sweet library officers of Keats College. Emphasis was also laid on personal learning by the introduction of a new class in the school, the Project Based Learning (PBL), where students are encouraged to make personal research work at the library and who are closely guided by some teachers, namely Mrs Belath,Miss Arjoon , Mr Eddoo and Mrs Médon.

The event was hosted by Mrs Anusha Pursun, the lady behind the organization of this great occasion. A slam on books was beautifully presented by Warren Dughole, a Form 1 student and all usual readers in the library were rewarded on that day, namely form 1, form 2 and form 3 students and Mr Bannarsee, a staff member, who encouraged all Keats family members to read regularly and reminded on the occasion that Manchester United was the best football team ever!

Another appreciated surprise was the presentation of our young writer Mr Ryan Seethanah, student of Form 2Blue, who presented his first book, The Haunted Island, a copy of which was gifted to Mr Clément Wong, Mr Mungly, Mr Yvan Martial and to the librarian officers. More rewards were awarded to the winners of the quiz competition which was organized to mark the celebration of The International World Book Day. The winners of quiz competition was the PATOLE Team, namely Ramtohul, Boyjonauth and Sukkea of Lower6, Sevret and Christine from Form 5C, Rumon,Gopeesingh and St Flour fom F4C1, Ryan, Yanice and Sharma from F1Blue.

Thursday 2nd May is indeed a great day to be remembered as it was also the grand inauguration of the Mauritiana Library at Keats College, bright project initiated by Miss Swaleha Korimboccus. Mr Yvan Martial honored the inauguration and he warmly presented Mauritian books as gifts to the school library. Mauritiana library, a precious wealth, where one can obtain Mauritian recipes, a looking at Mauritian Historry and enjoy various marvelous novels from Mauritian talented authors. It is indeed a must-look corner! Hats off to the team work of the two marvelous librarian officers of Keats Colllege, Mr Tayab and MISS Korimboccus, to make our library a little heaven!

Special thanks goes to Mrs Pursun, Mrs Moctee, Miss Swaleha, Mr Tayab and Mr Mungly for the great organisation of the event, Mrs Shaheen Madarun and her team for the decoration and costumes of Père Fouka and Mr Livre, PBL teachers, the catering team, the students and Keats Staff members for their participation in this magnificient event.
