World Book Day and Copyright Day - Valentina Dept - 23rd April 2013

“Ten minutes in respect for reading” that was the motto on this 23rd of April at Valentina as we celebrate the World Book and Copyright Day. Indeed, the librarians, Mr Tayab and Miss Swaleha and teaching staff spare no effect in giving that day its “lettre de noblesse” and it was an occasion to remind the students about the importance of reading. In fact, on that special day, the 6th period was dedicated for reading.
Books remain the most beautiful invention of mankind for sharing ideas beyond boundaries of space and time.
Special word of thanks to Mr Tayab, Miss Swaleha and Mrs Pursan for making that celebration a success

We celebrate a special event at a special place, which is our very own "Keats College". Hence, on this special occasion, I have a special message for special people like you.
Today, the 23rd of April, we are celebrating the 'World Book and Copyright Day' decreed by UNESCO in 1995 to promote the reading culture throughout the world.

I seize this opportunity to tell you that books create wonders. So far, no readers have ended up being losers. On the contrary, history bears testimony of how learned people have contributed to the progress made around the world. Opening a book is opening the door of wisdom as the more we read the more we learn.
However, it is an undeniable fact that today we are living in an era predominated by technology and we are all taken up by our busy schedule. Nevertheless, if you want to spare some time to reading, nobody and nothing can stop you. I am not asking you to read books straight away, but I would rather advise you to start by reading an article, a newspaper, or a magazine. Enjoy it and you will be surprised my friends. You will already open the door of wisdom.

Give it a try, start today. Read one word, one line, one paragraph, one page and I am sure you will realise how much you have missed so far.

I will end by quoting a line from our school anthem : "Books are my dear companion".

Remember friends, the sooner you choose your right companion, the brighter your future will be.

The annual Sociology Forum was held on the 27th March 2013 and the topic discussed was the Influence of Media. Audience was captivated by the enlightened speech of the guest of honor, the dynamic Professor Sheila Bunwaree. A free-thinking mood was adopted during the forum to explain the importance of media in our lives and also to describe how media can be destructive if badly used. The forum was anchored by Miss Swatee Bhuruth and Miss Arjoon. Captivating moments of the forum were the opening speech of the Rector, Mr Tony Wong Ah-Sui, followed by the Head of Sociology Department, Mr Dev Dhurmah and the interesting questions set by the attentive students.
