Family Day at Boys Department

Keats College’s Family Day was celebrated on 27th May 2015 with its prevalent theme being ‘La Famille Havre de Paix; A Nou Partaz Nou Leritaz’.  Indeed in a school which prides itself as being a family “Une Ecole Une Famille”, this function is an annual event of prime importance.

This year, it assembled Form I and Form II students as well as their relatives under the Keatsian banner in order to subtly stress the importance of the home environment and parental support in their children’s educational achievement, while at the same time sparkling interest in students’ work progress during the academic year.

The function started with the school prayer, the national anthem and the school anthem.  After the striking speeches of the Deputy Rector Mr. Mungly and of the President of the PTA Mr. Soniah, word games were directed at the assisting parents to their obvious pleasure.  A sketch based on story-telling and the importance of parents spending time with their children was beautifully acted out and appreciated.  It was with much empathy that the captivated audience bore witness to the testimonies of parents as they expressed their satisfaction and happiness regarding the present event and their child’s schooling at Keats College.

The most moving part of the function was indubitably when the students gifted their parents roses as a token of gratitude and love.  It was certainly an emotive moment when the children hugged their parents and vocally expressed their love for the latter.

Mrs. Wong, the wife of the late and much regretted Mr. Max Wong Ah Sui founder of Keats College, graced the function by her esteemed presence.  She imparted some much appreciated wise words to both parents and students on this occasion.  She was pleased to receive a rose from her son Mr. Clement Wong, Manager of Keats College, as a symbol of appreciation and affection.
The gathering ended with roses being offered to members of the organising team and refreshments being served to the parents.  Responsible parties were able to view the art work and projects of their proud progenies in a mini exhibition hosted outside the school library, in collaboration with the Art Department.  Members of the Student Council efficiently guided parents to the venue and took them through the art presentation.

The event elicited the combined teamwork of our librarians Mr. Tayab and Miss Korimbocus, Mrs. Mokhtee of the Administrative Department, Mrs. Pursun of the French Department as Master of Ceremony, Mrs. Mandarun of the Art Department, Mr. Ramgolam of the Prevocational Department as well as the form teachers of the Form I (Miss Khoodaruth), and Form II (Mrs. Johaheer and Mrs. Kadeer).  Sound system services and apt background music were proffered by Mr. Rajiv Rambarassah with his usual aplomb and efficiency.  A special salute goes to the non-teaching staff without whom the event would not have proceeded smoothly and would have lacked its lustre.
Congratulations everyone for this most commendable and memorable function!
